Description
Delta Stream is the longest Fryxell basin stream and is located on the south shore of Lake Fryxell which drains Howard Glacier in the Kukri Hills. The stream cuts through a series of perched deltas deposited during previous high lake stands, hence its name. In the upper reaches (above 1 km from the lakeshore) the stream has a moderate gradient and a wide streambed. The gauge is located about 100 m above the outlet of the stream to the lake. The reach between the gauge and the lake has a shallow gradient, and there is a steep bank on the west side of the channel. Stream length: 11.2 km.
Environmental data
Hydrological, biological, chemical, and physical property measurements have been made for a number of McMurdo Dry Valley streams and lakes.
