Description:
Isopolar valves linear-lanceolate with slightly convex margins and capitate to subcapitate ends (width always smaller than general valve width) (L 15-25µm, W 5 6,5µm, 26-30 striae in 10µm). Axial area lacking. Striae, aligned with each other or alternating, perpendicular to the transapical axis, slightly radiate near the poles. Primary and secondary transapical ribs present between the striae and clearly visible (in contrast with the striae). Only one row of marginal spines detectable. One rimoportula and two apical porefields present. Girdle structure different from F. germainii, consisting of only 2 open bands.

Notes:
Rarely found on Crozet. pH-optimum 6,7.South Georgia (Van de Vijver et al. 2000), Kerguelen (Van de Vijver personal observation).see remark under F. germainii Reichardt & Lange-Bertalot about the classification of both taxa. More information on the distinction between F. germainii and F. husvikensis is given in Van de Vijver et al. (2000).
