Striae: 22 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear with parallel margins and (always) clearly capitate ends (L 78 95µm, W 3-4,5µm, 22 striae in 10µm). Striae parallel, slightly radiate near the ends. Thickened transapical ribs absent.

Notes:

Rarely found in small pools and running waterbodies. pH-optimum 7,4.Recently described from the Andes, so the presence in the (Sub-)Antarctic Region is still unknown.Pierre (1977) found similar valves on Ile de la Possession, but described them invalidly as Fragilaria bicapitata var. grandis Pierre.
