Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 11-12µm
Width: 2-2,6µm
Striae: 9-10 transapical fibula partitions, 28-29 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear-lanceolate with slightly convex margins and sharply rounded ends (L 11-12µm, W 2-2,6µm, 9-10 transapical fibula partitions, 28-29 striae in 10µm). Since the striae are very small, it is almost impossible to distinguish them in LM. In SEM, striae appear to be biseriate, containing rounded areolae. The fibula partitions show small hunches on either side. The fibulae are often split into two partitions. The fibulate raphe system is strongly eccentric with small, slightly enlarged central endings. Polar endings strongly hooked towards the narrow valve side.

Morphology: Nitzschioid
Distribution:

Autecology:

Notes:

Only found in some soil samples. The highest abundance was reached in BA061, a sample taken in the Pointe Basse area, in a small cave. The accompanying diatom flora suggest a more brackish environment. No other records found probably due to confusion with other small Denticula species such as Denticula subtilis Grunow.
