Striae: 25 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves lanceolate with subrostrate ends. (L 11,5-23µm, W 3,5-5µm, 25 striae in 10µm). RV: axial area linear, slightly widened near the central area. Central area with more spaced, (shorter) striae (sometimes at one side, no shorter striae can be observed). Raphe filiform. ARV: axial area very narrow, linear, wider in the central area. Median striae much shorter.

Morphology: Monoraphid

Autecology:

Notes:

Fairly abundant in wet, non-submerged mosses. In standing waterbodies, this taxon seems to prefer smaller, slightly acid pools with low conductivity values (<100µS/cm).Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1983, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001), South Orkney Islands (Oppenheim & Greenwood 1990), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1996, 1997a).Le Cohu & Maillard (1983) suggest that A. modestiforme should be considered to be a form of the A. minutissimum-complex. This is not followed by Lange-Bertalot & Krammer (1989) who kept A. modestiforme as a separate taxon.
