Description:

Valves typically cruciform with bluntly rounded apices (L 19-26µm, W (in the middle) 13-17µm, 9 striae in 10µm). Axial area linear or slightly lanceolate. Striae parallel to slightly radiate. Two apical porefields present. Rimoportula absent. Large marginal spines present at the interstriae, often mixed with small spines. Striae consist of one row of slit-like areolae, separated by large intercostal ribs. Rib surface often sculptured by second order ribs.

Notes:

Rare on Ile de la Possession. Only found on Pointe Basse in two large lakes (W578 W581) with very high pH and fairly high specific conductance values.Kerguelen (Bourelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a).
