Striae: 9-11 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves heteropolar, linear-lanceolate with a short depression at the broadly rounded pole. Length 13,6-83µm, width 4,6-6,3µm. Axial area narrow but clearly present. Transapical striae, 9-11 in 10µm, ovoid, consisting of 3 rows of round areolae. Striae continue over the mantle face, interrupted by one row of sharp, hooked marginal spines. Internally, striae are lying between raised ribs. Rimoportula absent. Apical porefield clearly present at pointed valve pole. Notes:

Common in lakes and large pools (>600m²) from the Point Basse area (Jardin Japonais) with high pH (maximum 8,9) and rather high specific conductance (250 300µS/cm) values. Occurring attached to stones and filamenteous algae. Not observed in moss and soil samples. So far only found on Ile de la Possession. It is possible that S. jolinae is much more common in the (Sub-)
