Striae: 30-40 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves elliptical with rounded ends. (L 6-15µm, W 3-6 µm, 30-40 striae in 10µm). RV: axial area narrow, linear, central area stauroform, bordered by 2-3 irregular short striae, raphe straight, filiform. ARV: structure similar to raphid valve, presence of raphoid structure with marked terminal pores.

Notes:

Only common in oligotrophic pools and lakes with slightly acid pH values and low to moderate specific conductance values. Relative abundances in mosses and soils do not exceed 2%.South Shetland Islands (Schmidt et al. 1990, Björck et al. 1991, 1994), Antarctic Peninsula (Vinocur & Izaguirre 1994, Vinocur & Pizarro 1995, Izaguirre & Pizarro 1998), South Orkney Islands (Jones et al. 1993, Oppenheim 1994, Jones 1995), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1996, 1997a), Maritime Antarctic Region (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997b), Kerguelen (Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001).
