Length: | 18-20µm |
Width: | 4-5µm |
Striae: | 32-38 transapical striae in 10µm |
Description:
Valves linear-lanceolate with rounded apices. (L 18-20µm, W 4-5µm, 32-38 transapical striae in 10µm. RV: axial area linear, central area stauroform, sometimes with one or two shorter isolated striae. Raphe filiform. ARV: Axial area linear, narrow, central area stauroform, with shorter striae. Transapical striae slightly radiate, consisting of 4-5 rounded areolae. Differs from P. confusum by the different structure of the striae on the ARV, the lack of the raphe vestiges and the larger number of striae in 10µm.

Notes:
Vallée du Camp, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample W493 (coll. date 12/11/97).Due to confusion with P. confusum, the ecology of this new taxon is still preliminary. The taxon is present in larger lakes with high specific conductance values and circumneutral pH.So far only recorded on Ile de la Possession but due to possible confusion with P. confusum the distribution within the (Sub-)Antarctic Region may be much larger.
Other sites with Psammothidium confusiforme
- Ile de la Possession (moist habitats), Crozet Archipelago
