Striae: 9-11 fibulae in 10µm

Description:

Valves elliptical to linear-elliptical with slightly cuneately rounded ends (L 15 24µm, W 8-10µm, 9-11 fibulae in 10µm). Raphe keel quite eccentrically placed. Central pores distinct due to the concavity of the keel. Fibulae large. Transapical striae not visible in LM. The so-called 'tryblionelloid' ribs are variable in shape and size, 14-17 in 10µm.

Notes:

Rare on Ile de la Possession. Only found in relatively wet (50-60%) soils sampled from cliffs near the seaside. No observations in mosses and water habitats.South Shetland Islands (Björck et al. 1993), King George Island (Schmidt et al. 1990), Antarctic Peninsula (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997b).Taxon that can be included within the group of Tryblionella, considered by some authors to be a separate genus (Round et al. 1990).
