Description:
Valves linear-lanceolate with subcapitate or capitate ends (L 17-25µm, W 3-4,5µm, 42 46 striae in 10µm). Axial area very narrow, linear. Central area a narrow fascia widening towards the valve margins. Raphe filiform with terminal fissures, strongly bent towards the same side and indistinct central pores. Transapical striae not resolvable in LM. In SEM striae appear radiate, more convergent towards the poles. Several solitary short striae present in the fascia, clearly visible at the inside.

Notes:
Vallée des Branloires, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BW151 (coll.date 19/12/1997).Common in small, acidic (5,4-6,0) pools with low conductance values (<90µS/cm) and low nutrient values. Fairly common in moss samples. Mean F-value 4,0±1,3. Not found in soil samples. So far only found on Ile de la Possession. This new taxon bears some resemblance to several other members of the genus Kobayasiella. But all taxa described so far lack the typical fascia and accompanying short striae. This feature in combination with the smaller dimensions and higher striae density clearly characterize this new taxon. Very often, specimen of this genus are misidentified as K. subtilissima, the most widely known species of this genus. The above described taxon differs from this species in its much finer striation, smaller valve dimensions and presence of a fascia.
