Description:

Valves elliptical-lanceolate with broadly rounded apices. Longer specimen more linear (L 24-40µm, W 5,5-7,5µm). Axial area narrow, linear, widening towards the middle. Central area transapically expanded by the shortening of three striae. Raphe filiform, straight with slightly curved, clearly expanded central pores. Terminal fissures abruptly hooked. Transapical striae strongly radiate, usually more or less sinuous, 16-17 in 10µm. No stigma present. Five to seven punctually reduced striae present near the valve end.

Found in the same sample as G. subantarctica (see above).Kerguelen (Van de Vijver & Le Cohu subm.)In Le Cohu & Maillard, this taxon has been identified as Navicula ignota but the picture (fig83) shown in Le Cohu & Maillard (1986) is clearly identical to G. taafiana.
