Valves linear-lanceolate, with almost parallel margins and broadly rounded, protracted ends (L 46-50µm, W 8-9µm, 25-30 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow. Raphe curved, bordered by two internal axial ribs. Central area elliptical. Central raphe pores thickened, deflected towards each other. Polar endings terminating in a small pore. Transapical striae uniseriate, closely spaced, parallel to slightly radiating in the middle. In LM, striae are sometimes difficult to distinguish. Helictoglossa clearly visible in SEM.

Notes:

Rare on Ile de la Possession. Mainly found in a small river with a pH of 7,7 and a specific conductance of 180µS/cm. Also recorded from two relatively wet soil samples.Crozet (Pierre 1977), Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986), Macquarie Island (McBride et al. 1999).The measured dimensions are somewhat smaller than the dimensions given in Krammer & Lange-Bertalot (1986).
