Valves linear-lanceolate to linear with cuneately rounded apices, 17-30 µm long and 4-6 µm broad. Axial area narrow, central area a large rectangular stauros, reaching the valve margins. Transapical striae uniseriate, around the stauros slightly radiate, more distally parallel, finally convergent, not to resolve (LM) 46-50 in 10µm. Notes:
Frustulia cirisiae has been found in both soil and semi-wet terrestrial moss samples. The highest abundances (8%) were reached in samples from a slightly acid, dry soil in the vicinity of Baie Americaine. F. cirisiae seems to prefer fairly dry (24 ± 12 %) and slightly acid (pH 6-7) conditions.Described from Ile de la Possession. Distribution so far unknown. The presence of a large stauros resulted in the creation of a new subgenus for this taxon: Staurofrustulia Van de Vijver, Ledeganck & Beyens.
