Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 17-40µm
Width: 3-5µm
Striae: 12-14 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves with clear concave ventral and convex dorsal side (L 17-40µm, W 3-5µm, 12-14 striae in 10µm). Apices slightly protracted, broadly rounded. Transapical striae evenly spaced throughout the entire valve. Raphe branches fairly long, reaching almost 1/3 of the valve length, ending close to the poles. Distal nodules clearly visible in LM, appearing as a long slit.

Morphology: Eunotioid
Distribution:

Autecology:

Notes:

Fairly common in small, acid pools with low specific conductance values and low nutrient values. Also found in wet mosses (F-value II-III) and in dry (< 32%), acid soils. So far only found on Ile de la Possession. The identity of this taxon is very unclear. It is possible that we are dealing here with a variety of E. fallax although the valves are more curved than the typical fallax-valves.
