Description:

Valves linear with slightly undulating margins and clear (sub-)capitate broadly rounded ends (L 34-44µm, W 6-7,5µm, 20-25 striae in 10µm). Axial area linear, central area circular, bordered by shortened striae. Striae uniseriate, slightly radiate, changing to convergent near the poles. Internally, striae show no interruption between valve and mantle face. Raphe filiform with hooked terminal fissures and slightly curved central endings.

Autecology:

Notes:

Uncommon on Ile de la Possession where it was found mostly in relatively dry mosses. In soils, it has been observed in moderately wet and slightly acid soils with a fairly high nutrient status.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001).Manguin described two taxa with the same name. The Kerguelen taxon was the first to be published and so it is the valid name. The other taxon, described from New Caledonia in 1962, was transferred to Adlafia under the name of A. muscora (Kociolek & Reviers) Lange-Bertalot.
