Description:

Valves linear-elliptical to elliptical (smaller forms) with broadly rounded, non protracted ends (L 8-11µm, W 2,5-3,5µm, 26-28 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area large, forming a fascia sometimes bordered by several shortened striae. Raphe filiform with small central pores and hooked terminal fissures.

Notes:

Common in larger acid circumneutral lakes with low specific conductance values (<100µS/cm). Less common in moss and soil samples. Mean F-value 3,4±1,5.Kerguelen (Reinsch 1879, Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 2001), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1996, 1997a), Macquarie Island (McBride et al. 1999), South Orkney Islands (Jones et al. 1993, Jones & Juggings 1995).
