Description:
Valves elliptical to linear-elliptical with broadly rounded ends (L 30-55µm, W 14-18µm, 10-13 striae in 10µm). Central area large. Raphe weakly lateral. Apical furrows linear, H-shaped with a large central nodule. Terminal fissures deflected. Central raphe endings expanded, clearly visible. Longitudinal canal bordered by a row of large areolae, isolated from the transapical striae. Striae in the middle slightly radiate to very radiate near the poles. Areolae in the striae always placed in quincunx.

Notes:
Fairly common on Ile de la Possession in moss, relatively dry soil and water samples, never reaching an abundance of more than 5%. Prefers a slightly acid habitat with higher specific conductance values. Mean F-value 3,8±1,9.Kerguelen (Germain 1937, Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001), South Georgia (Fukushima 1965, Van de Vijver 1996, 1997a), Crozet (Pierre 1977).
