Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 10-15µm
Width: 2-3µm
Striae: 30-32 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear with strongly undulating margins and broadly rounded, subcapitate ends (L 10-15µm, W 2-3µm, 30-32 striae in 10µm). The poles never extend beyond the undulations. Transapical striae slightly radiate in the middle, more and more convergent towards the poles. Axial area well-defined, linear (1/3 of the valve width). Raphe straight, filiform with only slightly marked endings. Terminal pores ending near the last striae. Central area widened, generally bordered by 3 striae.

Morphology: Naviculoid
Distribution:

Autecology:

Notes:

Common in semi-wet soils (± 50%), usually with higher specific conductance values and higher phosphate and chloride concentrations. pH-indifferent but seems not to occur at pH > 7 (range 4,3-6,9).Kerguelen (Le Cohu & Van de Vijver (in press)).Easily distinguishable from D. langebertalotii by its larger shape and the lower number of striae. More morphological details on D. crozetikerguelensis are given in Le Cohu & Van de Vijver (in press).
