Description:

Valves slightly dorsiventral with clearly capitate ends (L 36-39µm, W 8,5-10µm, 13-15 dorsal striae in 10µm). Dorsal side convex, ventral side only slightly convex. Axial area narrow, central area clearly present, circular to rhombical. Striae both dorsally and ventrally radiate, closer together near the poles. In LM individual puncta not visible. Raphe slightly ventrally displaced. Terminal fissures bend towards the dorsal side.

Notes:

C. naviculiformis was only rarely found on Ile de la Possession. Observations in both very wet mosses and small pools were made. pH ranges from 6,7 to 7,1 with a relatively low conductivity (100-150µS/cm). No valves were found in soils.Kerguelen (Le Cohu & Maillard 1986).
