Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 20-25µm
Width: 3-4µm
Striae: 30-35 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear-lanceolate with cuneately rounded ends (L 20-25µm, W 3 4µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area a very large, symmetrical fascia. Raphe filiform almost straight with small indistinct central pores. Terminal fissures weakly ?-shaped. Transapical striae moderately radiate in the middle, convergent near the poles, hard to resolve in LM, 30-35 in 10µm.

Morphology: Naviculoid

Notes:

Vallée de la Hébé, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BA78 (coll. date 29/11/1999).Only found in one soil sample in low abundances. The ecological features of this sample are: pH 5,6, specific conductance 1953µS/cm, ammonium 1,68mg/l, phosphate 3,44mg/l and chloride 15mg/l. The sample was taken about 10m from the sea. The presence of this species in another soil sample with the same ecological features needs to be confirmed with SEM results. So far only found on Ile de la Possession.Very fine-structured taxon, striae hard to resolve in LM.
