Description:
Valves lanceolate with broadly rounded, subrostrate to even subcapitate ends (L 59-81µm, W 10-13µm, 22-25 striae in 10µm, ±25 puncta in 10µm). Axial area linear, moderately narrow. Central area forming an almost rectangular fascia, slightly widened near the valve margins. Raphe clearly lateral with deflected, distinct central pores. Transapical striae moderately radiate in the middle, strongly radiate towards the apices.

Notes:
Fairly common in small pools with slightly acid to circumneutral pH (6,1-7,0) but low conductivity values (<80µS/cm).Unknown, taxon was just recently established (1999) so a lot of records will be hidden in observations of S. phoenicenteron.
