Description:
Valves linear-lanceolate with slightly convex margins and cuneately rounded ends (L 50-68µm, W 7-9µm, 21-24 striae in 10µm). Pseudosepta clearly present. Axial area usually narrow, linear. Central area a small, sometimes asymmetrical fascia. Raphe filiform, sometimes weakly lateral. Central pores deflected, distinct. Terminal fissures usually not visible in LM. Tranapical striae radiate in the middle, weakly radiate to even parallel near the poles.

Notes:
Rare in relatively dry (<45%) circumneutral to slightly acid soils with higher specific conductance (>1000µS/cm) and chloride (>40mg/l) values. Almost completely absent in moss vegetations and water habitats.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986), Campbell Island (Hickman & Vitt 1973), South Georgia (Van de Vijver, personal observation).
