Description:
Valves linear-lanceolate with slightly convex margins and cuneately rounded ends (L 50-68µm, W 7-9µm, 21-24 striae in 10µm). Pseudosepta clearly present. Axial area usually narrow, linear. Central area a small, sometimes asymmetrical fascia. Raphe filiform, sometimes weakly lateral. Central pores deflected, distinct. Terminal fissures usually not visible in LM. Notes:
Rare in relatively dry (<45%) circumneutral to slightly acid soils with higher specific conductance (>1000µS/cm) and chloride (>40mg/l) values. Almost completely absent in moss vegetations and water habitats.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986), Campbell Island (Hickman & Vitt 1973), South Georgia (Van de Vijver, personal observation).
