Length: | 45-60µm |
Width: | 7,5-10,5µm |
Striae: | 12-14 striae in 10µm |
Description:
Valves linear with straight sides and broadly rounded, clearly capitate ends (L 45 60µm, W 7,5-10,5µm 12-14 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear, widening in the middle. Central area a broad fascia. One or more striae sometimes present in the middle of the fascia, reducing its size. Raphe filiform with drop-shaped, laterally bent central pores. Terminal fissures ?-shaped. Transapical striae radiate in the middle, convergent near the poles. No longitudinal lines.

Notes:
Vallée des Branloires, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BW154 (coll. date 19/12/1997).Common in many freshwater samples, usually in fairly high frequencies (>10%). Seems to prefer acid, oligotrophic pools with low specific conductance values (<100µS/cm).So far only found on Ile de la Possession.Although undulate valves probably belonging to P. biceps Gregory could be found, they have never been observed in the Crozet populations. The valves are usually smaller than the description given in Krammer (2000) for P. biceps. P. anglica, also found on the island, possesses less capitate ends and is usually smaller, compared to P. vatii.
