Notes:

Common in nutrient and salinity enriched areas, especially in penguin rookeries where this taxon forms a typical community with Luticola mutica s.l. and P. kolbei Manguin.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001), South Orkney Islands (Oppenheim 1990, Oppenheim & Greenwood 1990), Antarctic Peninsula (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997b), Macquarie Island (McBride et al. 1999).See P. subantarctica var. subantarctica.
