Description:

Valves linear-elliptical with convex sides and broadly rounded ends (L 24-34µm, W 5,5-7,5µm, 10-11 striae in 10µm). Axial area relatively large, widening from the poles towards the middle of the valve. Central area a rectangular fascia. Raphe filiform, curved with distinct central pores. Terminal fissures bent to one side. Transapical striae almost parallel in the middle, convergent near the poles. No longitudinal lines present.

Morphology: Naviculoid
Distribution:

Autecology:

Notes:

Only present in one soil sample, taken from a shallow cave in the vicinity of Pointe Basse. The accompanying diatom flora points to increased salinity input (it is possible that the cave is used as a shelter by marine birds). So far only found on Ile de la Possession but since this is a recently established taxon (Lange-Bertalot & Genkal 1999), records may be included within similar taxa.
