Description:
Valves linear-elliptical with convex sides and broadly rounded, sometimes slightly subrostrate ends (L 13-26µm, W 3,5-4,5µm, 11-12 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area large, forming a broad fascia. Raphe filiform, slightly deflected in the middle with small central pores, close together. Terminal fissures ?-shaped but hard to resolve in LM. Transapical striae moderately radiate in the middle becoming strongly convergent towards the ends. No longitudinal bands present.

Notes:
Common in relatively dry (<45%), acid soils with higher specific conductance values (>500µS/cm). Prefers also drier mosses (mean F-value 4,5±1,7). Less frequently observed in water habitats such as lakes and rivers.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997a), Antarctic Peninsula (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997b), South Shetland Islands (Björck et al. 1993, Kawecka et al. 1998), Macquarie Island (McBride et al. 1999).
