Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 75-130µm
Width: 14-18µm
Striae: 8-9 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear with parallel margins and broadly rounded ends (L 75-130µm, W 14-18µm, L/W ratio 5-7). Axial area moderately narrow, 1/3 of valve width. Central area rhomboid with a symmetrical, rectangular fascia. Raphe narrowly lateral, straight with large, laterally bent teardrop-like central pores and viridis-like terminal fissures. Transapical striae weakly radiate in the middle, convergent near the apices, 8-9 striae in 10µm. Moderately large longitudinal line present.

Morphology: Naviculoid

Notes:

Pointe Basse (Grande Coulée), Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BM282 (coll. date 04/01/1998).Common but only in low numbers (<5%) in all kinds of terrestrial habitats ranging from wet mosses (F-value 80%) and semi-wet (50-60%) acid soils.Only found on Ile de la Possession.Unmistakable due to its size, the number of striae and the distinct raphe structure.
