Length: | 30-68µm |
Width: | 7-10µm |
Striae: | 10-12 striae in 10µm |
Description:
Valves linear with parallel, straight sides and distinctly subcapitate ends (L 30 68µm, W 7-10µm, 10-12 striae in 10µm). Axial area linear, narrow. Central area mostly forming an irregular fascia, sometimes interrupted by a single stria. Sometimes, the central area is elliptical without a fascia. Raphe filiform with marked, laterally bent central pores. Terminal fissures ?-shaped. Transapical striae weakly to moderately radiate in the middle, more and more convergent towards the poles. No longitudinal lines.

Notes:
Baie Américaine, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BA035 (coll. Date 14/11/1999).Common in acid freshwater habitats and wet soils with low (<100µS/cm) to moderate (200-400µS/cm) specific conductance values. Sometimes present in enriched pools (influenced by elephant seals). Less common in mosses. No ecological differences have been found between the two morphotypes.Kerguelen (Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001).The dimensions P. angliciformis are smaller than P. anglica Krammer as indicated in Krammer (2000). The number of striae is likewise lower. Therefore we consider this to be a separate species.
