Length: | 40-50µm |
Width: | 6-7µm |
Striae: | 12-13 striae in 10µm |
Description:
Valves linear with parallel margins and broad capitate ends, clearly differentiated from the valve body (L 40-50µm, W 6-7µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area rhomboid with broad fascia. Raphe filiform, undulated. Central endings apically enlarged with rounded pores. Terminal fissures almost straight. Transapical striae moderately radiate in the middle, strongly convergent towards the ends, abrupty changing direction halfway to the apices, 12-13 striae in 10µm.

Notes:
Lapérouse, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BM213 (coll. date 28/12/1997).Only found in wet terrestrial moss samples from the area of Baie Lapérouse, an area highly influenced by sea-spray and wind. No observations were made in soil and water samples. So far only found on Ile de la Possession. The structure of the striae resembles P. divergentissima Grunow, P. similiformis Krammer and P. carteri Krammer. Since we found this taxon on several locations, an ecological variety of one of these three taxa seems not probable. The structure of the raphe however excludes all possible confusion and justifies the creation of a new taxon.
