Valves elliptical-lanceolate with bluntly rounded ends (L 28-34µm,W 9-10µm, 13-15 striae in 10µm). Axial area very narrow, linear. Central area stauroform, sometimes bordered by very short striae. Transapical striae curved to sigmoid, convergent near the poles.

Notes:

Found in several soil samples. Seems to prefer elevated salinity conditions.South Shetland Islands (Björck et al. 1991), James Ross Island (Björck et al. 1996), Horseshoe Island (Wasell & Hakansson 1992, Wasell 1993).Based on the characteristics of the axial area and the raphe endings, this taxon clearly belongs to the genus Pinnuavis.
