Description:

Valves linear-lanceolate with bluntly rounded, slightly protracted ends (L 24 28µm, W 5-6µm, 14-15 striae in 10µm). Axial area linear, narrow. Central area almost symmetrical, rectangular, bordered by 2-3 shortened striae. Raphe filiform straight with weakly expanded central pores. Transapical striae rather radiate in the middle, parallel to slightly convergent towards the poles.

Notes:

Rarely found on Ile de la Possession. Highest abundance reached in a wet soil sample (BA087, <5%) with a pH-value of 6,6 and low specific conductance and nutrient values.South Orkney Islands (Oppenheim 1990, Oppenheim & Greenwood 1990, Jones et al. 1993) South Shetland Islands (Björck et al. 1993), James Ross Island (Björck et al.1996), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1997a).Incorrectly mentioned as Navicula lundii Reichardt in Van de Vijver & Beyens (1998b, 1999a).
