Description:
Valves linear-elliptical with broadly rounded ends (L 8-16µm, W 3-4µm, 18-21 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area enlarged, almost rectangular, bordered by 1-3 shorter striae. Raphe filiform, usually straight with small central pores and hooked terminal fissures. Transapical striae slightly radiate in the middle, convergent to almost parallel near the apices. In SEM, the striae are clearly biseriate.

Common in lakes and pool.Widespread in the entire (Sub-)Antarctic Region.
