Description:
Valves elliptical-lanceolate with moderately acute or slightly broadly rounded ends (L 16-22µm, W 4-6µm, 21-24 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area elliptical, relatively small, symmetrical. Raphe straight, filiform with slightly deflected, marked central pores. Transapical striae clearly radiate, more parallel and even convergent towards the poles. In SEM, the lineolae appear very densely placed, 45-50 in 10µm.

Bollard, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BA173 (coll. date 31/01/2002).Found in several semi-wet soil samples taken from scratches in the cliffs bordering the coastline. Influence of sea-spray is quite likely.so far only known from Ile de la Possession.This new sample closely resembles Navicula phylleptosoma Lange-Bertalot but can be distinguished by its more elliptical-lanceolate outline, the higher number of striae in 10µm and the smaller central area. Navicula phyllepta Kützing and Navicula salinarum Grunow are much larger.
