Description:

Valves narrow linear-lanceolate with rostrate to subcapitate and even capitate ends (L 20-26µm, W 4-5µm, 16-20 striae in 10µm). Axial area linear, very narrow. Central area variable due to irregularly shortened and spaced transapical striae. Raphe straight, filiform with distinct central pores, close together. Transapical striae strongly radiate to convergent near the poles.

Morphology: Naviculoid

Autecology:

Notes:

Rare in water and moss samples, more frequently recorded from dry, almost circumneutral soils with low specific conductance values and fairly high nutrient and chloride concentrations.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954, Larson 1974, Le Cohu & Maillard 1986, Van de Vijver et al. 1998a, 2001), South Orkney Islands (Oppenheim & Greenwood 1990, Jones et al. 1993).Described by Hustedt from the Kerguelen. Bears some similarities with N. longicephala Hustedt but differs by its larger shape and different raphe structure.
