Width: 10-11µm
Striae: 24-27 striae in 10µm

Description:

Valves linear, slightly undulating with cuneately rounded ends (L 60-70µm, W 10-11µm). Axial area narrow. First row of areolae is separated from the striae by an hyaline area. Central area broadly elliptical in shape with an elongated rectangular central nodule. Raphe linear with clearly spaced, irregularly curved central endings, passing the first rows of areolae. Terminal fissures deflected at the valve mantle and bifurcated. Transapical central striae more spaced than the other striae, 18-20 in 10µm, clearly radiate. Remaining striae only slightly radiate, 24-27 in 10µm.

Notes:

Only found in very low abundances in freshwater lakes and wet soils.Kerguelen (Bourrelly & Manguin 1954 as N. linearis, Spaulding et al. 1999).Recently described from Kerguelen by Spaulding et al. (1999), replacing N. linearis found by Bourrelly & Manguin (1954). Detailed information regarding the fine morphology of this taxon is given in Spaulding et al. (1999).
