Description:

Valves elliptical to linear-elliptical with broadly rounded ends (L 8-13µm, W 4 4,5µm, 18-21 striae in 10µm). Axial area narrow, linear. Central area small, elliptical or even completely lacking. Raphe filiform with clear central and terminal endings. Transapical striae very radiate, especially in the middle, short and long striae alternating near the central nodule.

Notes:

Absent in water samples. Fairly common in soil samples preferring rather dry, slightly acid soils with relatively elevated nutrient conditions.South Orkney Islands (Jones et al. 1993, Jones & Juggings 1995), South Shetland Islands (Kawecka & Olech 1993, Kawecka et al. 1998), Continent (Spaulding et al. 1997), South Georgia (Van de Vijver & Beyens 1996).
