Description:
Valves in girdle view elliptical with broadly rounded, sometimes protracted ends. Individual valves strongly dorsiventral with a convex dorsal side and a slightly concave to straigth ventral side (L 14-34µm, W 6-13µm, 22-32 striae in 10µm). Width of individual valve 3-6µm. In LM, no distinction visible between mantle and valve face. In SEM sometimes a small hyaline area is present. Striae uniseriate, consisting of several lineolae. In the middle, 5-7 striae more spaced with larger lineolae. Striae completely lacking or highly reduced on the ventral side. Raphe present on typical raphe ledge with central endings dorsally curved and terminal endings sharply bent towards the dorsal margin.

A. veneta is frequently recorded on Ile de la Possession, but only in open waterbodies from the Jardin Japonais. Only very few observations were made in mosses and almost none in soils.
