Description:

Valves elliptical-lanceolate with highly variable rostrate to subcapitate ends (L 20-28µm, W 5-6µm, 17-19 striae in 10µm). Axial area very narrow, linear with an asymmetrically thickened nodule. Central area transapically widened, asymmetrical. Raphe filiform. Central endings with distinct pores, slightly deflected to the primary side. Transapical striae weakly radiate, convergent towards the poles. Lineolae distinct, even in LM.

Notes:

Common in some moss and water samples. Prefers wet mosses (mean F-value 4.1±0.9). In water samples, most records come from small pools and rivers with alkaline pH values and higher nutrient conditions.
